In honor of the new school year we celebrated!
After the bell rang we sat down to do some school work!
That built up our appetite so we had a after school snack of rice crispy treats!
Our dinner was a classic brown bag lunch... PPJ, apple, juice box, and Cheeto's!
And what brown bag would be complete without a love not from mom!
After dinner everyone got their backpacks on and we had a pencil hunt!
And finally we had our Back to School Cake!
Good-bye sleep good-bye! H
Your turn... Please share your families traditions! All you have to do is write a post and put my blog link somewhere in your post and then add your link in the slot below. Thats it!
I know there has to be some olympic nights out there. We are doing ours next week and I need some ideas!

We're doing back to school night next week...I think.
This week we had a kid birthday, but didn't take any pictures. =(

If I were a stay @ home mom, I'd totally do things like this. There just isn't time with a FT job.

I love your ideas, but even more so...LOOK AT HOW ORGANIZED YOU ARE !!!! MAN OH MAN I WISH!!!

Annie, minus the cake there was no effort. I ripped out a page in one of there workbooks they play with and that was homework, I made dinner and put it in a bag and hid some pencils around the house. It is easier than you may think! You can do it! H

I love the pencil hunt! That idea can be adapted for lots of themes. I'll be back next week with a family night. This was my first week back at work and I'm tired.

so cute...you got some great pics...i want your camera! :) i think we're gonna start "family nights" after we get into our new house...i've been saying we're gonna start doing this for a while now so after we move seems like a perfect time! i LOVE the cake!

I LOVE the cheeto mess all over Losiah's face...that just made me smile. And I still hate the black widows - that should be in some "Welcome to California" guide book somewhere.

Great idea! We did Olympic night last night. We had Chinese cuisine...ate with chopsticks. Decorations were making olympic rings. Craft was making gold, silver and bronze medals. For the "games"..we held a 3-legged race, played soccer and volleyball and named our teams after different countries.
And to Annie....You can definitely do this working full-time. It's totally worth it too!

Love the cake! So cute!!!
My kids think all family fun nights should consist of take-out food and watching a movie together....I think I need to inspire them with some variety :)

You are so creative!I'm sure your kiddos loved it.

Well, you did it! Inspired me to have family night. Our first one will be tomorrow and it IS going to be Olympic theme. I am going to make "Go for the Gold" cupcakes and we are going to play Sonic v. Mario at the Olympics on the Wii! I was going to have pizza as I could not think of a food to go with the theme, but I love Becci's idea of Chinese food! I will add myself to the little link-y thing tomorrow after I post (hopefully with pics!)

this is what I was going to tell you yesterday before you made me cry...
My girls like the show Wipeout and I have been letting them watch it because that is some funny stuff! Anyway, I hear them playing 'Wipeout' and make a bet with no one in the room as to who will cry first and how long it will take before someone was crying. I lost. I got the who right but my timing was off.
ANYway, I called them in and told them I would make a Wipeout course for them. I spun them 10 times then they had to go to a jumprope and do that several times then run to a hop-a-long ball and weave through crap I had set up in the hallway, collect small items from various locations, hop back with said items on ball to bench and it was all timed.
They loved it more that I thought they would and they did it for the rest of the night. Not sure what else you can do to make a night of it. I was just trying to avoid blood on the floor. Grace & Peace, daphne

That's funny. We've been on a little family night break this last week, but Lou and I were laying in bed last night and I said...I think next week I'm going to do a Back To School Night family night. I'm glad you did it first. Thanks for the great ideas.

i love the ideas about making medals and having chinese food and having your own competitions (i'd recommend Carlos does child weightlifting to see how many reps he can do with each child and the girls doing interpretive dancing gymnastics with parents handing out medals), but my little suggestion would be to do some sort of ring toss with the olympic rings. or some sort of hoola hoop decoration with 5 rings. have a blast!

I am not sure ours counts as a full on family night. But its a start! Thanks for being an encouragement and for always being REAL... its hard to do when your a pastor's wife!

Our first day of school traditions are as follows.....
School clothes shopping
school supply shopping
Then on the first day we have a huge family breakfast, take pictures and both hubby and I take them to school(were not allowed to walk them to there class anymore :( )
I send a little note in their lunch
Then when hubby and I drive away we either go to breakfast and or head straight home to bed for some fun.
Then I make homade cookies, pick the kiddos up and when they get home we all sit at the table to hear about the big first day read and fill out school papers sent home and do any homework.
That is what our school traditions are.The boys expect it and love every minute of it even though their teens. We have 4 more first day of school left with them.I will be sad when it ends. Its one of our favorite traditions.

Olympic night will be a great idea - you could have cookie medals for dessert - craft - the Olmpic flame -crepe paper & paper towel tube and some paint for the handle - Have your own parade of nations with the little one carrying the American Flag - Dinner could be a homemade pizza with the olympic rings made out of peppers - everyone could wear their work out clothes - or you could use Krispy Kreme doughnuts for the olympic rings (my fav) - Just some ideas for you. Thanks for sharing your family with us

We did Olympic night, too. We made torches, American Flags and ate Beijing, Chinese food. Lots of fun! It was our first family night. I like the Back to School night. We may have to do that tonight!

What a fun idea! I wished I would have thought of that one, you know...PRIOR to my Kindergartener starting school on Monday. Thanks for all the great ideas, though!

You have to do something with water balloons for your olympic night, kids always love those.

Last night we dug out a deep box, watercolors and color pencils. We put our paper in the box and did splatter art and then added pencil colors. We tore edges, made fringe and came up with some amazing (in our eyes) stationary to send the big sister, Kayla, who just went a way to college this week. We then filled a box with our art, notes and goodies to send as a care package. We had a great time and felt closer to big sister who we miss greatly! :)

Love your family night ideas...I'll have to do your Back to School night! We did Olympic night for the opening ceremonies. Chinese take out, we made torches for our relay races, daddy stroller races, a frisbee toss, and some other Olympic type games. Lots of fun!

This looks so fun. I linked here from Brandi Wilson's site. My daughter was looking with me and after she oohed and ahhed and giggled, she turned to me and scolded me with, "You never did that."
So thanks Heather. I'll link up when we have our first themed family night. :O)
