Nina this is for you... *how do you do your eye makeup i love it in the pics!
Posted by: ninabunk
I learned how to do my eyes like this one time when I got my makeup done by MAC.
First, I paint my lid black...
Second, I put the color Club by MAC on my lid, I put some white under my eyebrows and then fill my eyebrows in.
Then I use a light brownish color to blend the Club in my crease.
Then I add a gold color in the center of the eyelid.
Then eyeliner, mascara, blush and there you go... the look...
Who wears makeup... who does not? H

I love it! Are all of those color by MAC? (I love MAC's lipglass, have you tried it?) What are all the colors called?
Kaley
ps....in that first picture of you, I totally saw Seanna!!

Oh makeup is my friend! If I'm ever in a coma, I have already lined up 2 people to come in and do my makeup every day. (why 2? well, something could happen to the first one and I would need a back up!)
And your eyes...wow! Now I have a dilemma, is your hair or your eyes your best feature?!?!?! :)

I love your make up and I love doing my own make up. In fact everytime any of my across the street neighbors go out anywhere they ask me to do there make up same as my next door nieghbors high school daughter lol. I enjoy it.

D'you lost a paintball war?
Posted by: Danny | November 19, 2008 at 05:50 AM
I do not wear makeup, but if it made me look like that, and uhhhh, I was a woman, I would! :-)
Posted by: Toby | November 19, 2008 at 05:52 AM
Heather, you have the gorgeous skin tone that make-up looks great on. Me, not so much! I don't wear much...a tiny bit of mascara and a little foundation and powder and blush. I used to always wear tons of eye makeup but while pregnant had recurrent eye infections so had to stop that.
It's funny how when you don't wear make-up, people suggest a make-over. Thanks a lot!

Thanks for the tips. I am not really big into make-up, probably cause I am not that good at it, but I might have to give that a try...
Posted by: Ace | November 19, 2008 at 05:56 AM
You look beautiful! I very rarely wear makeup. usually I only wear it for special occasions, mostly because i am lazy, but I have never really been too into makeup. Part of me would love to look great, cute and put together every day, but I tend to put myself on the bottom of my list and get too wrapped up taking care of the kids, the house and my hubby and before I know it I have gone more than a year without a haircut, and my makeup is expired. haha!
Posted by: maura | November 19, 2008 at 05:58 AM
THANK YOU! I had a request from my hubby to have eye makeup like this some time... let's just say it was a disaster. I have no intuition about makeup and never the opportunity to learn as a teen. Step by step is so awesome. Our anniversary is Saturday... he may just get his request! Thanks! ~:-D

I seriously wear makeup maybe twice a year. I would love to, but have such sensitive skin I usually break out in a rash for a few days afterward...and yes, I have tried everything! Oh well. You're looks fantastic!
Posted by: m | November 19, 2008 at 06:29 AM
So my question is, what do you paint the lid black with? Liner? Shadow? Gorgeous! Can't wait to try it out!!
Posted by: Gin | November 19, 2008 at 06:35 AM
i knew it had to be mac!!! thanks heather! i wear the mac shadows, and whatever mascara i can find to make to make my eyelashes look fuller, loving benefit badgal right now!! i wear it everyday, don't leave the house without it!
Posted by: ninabunk | November 19, 2008 at 06:41 AM
I do wear make-up...but nobody can usually tell. =) Unless my sister does it for me!
Posted by: Amber Ferguson | November 19, 2008 at 06:41 AM
Ok here are some answers...
Danny: did you just say I looked like I got in a paintball war?
Kaley: My lid was CLUB by MAC, My crease was TEXTURE/VELVET by MAC, and the gold over the CLUB was called GOLDMINE by MAC.
Gin: The black on the eyelid is BLACKTRACK which is a eyeliner called fluidline by MAC which I use as my upper eyeliner everyday but also use to paint my lid when I do a dark eye.
*** I use mostly MAC because if you spend $50 in products they will do your makeup for you. AND you will walk out feeling like a movie star. This is how I learn to do most of my makeup. It is worth it to me!

thanks so much for doing this! i'd love to know one more thing-- and that's how you line your eye--- so many people do it differently, and i'd really like to try this look. thanks!

I for sure wear make-up. And now I'm thinking that I need to go visit the MAC counter.
So you color your lid with eye liner? interesting.

I have recently decided to stop wearing make-up. This was huge for me. Not that I wore a lot of make-up anyway. Foundation (Bare Minerals), mascara, lip liner, & gloss. I'm thinking about using the money to support a child through World Vision, something I have always wanted to do.
I think my complexion looks better with a little bit of make-up, but I didn't enjoy wearing it. I felt like I was wearing it to fit in (with who, I have no idea). So, for the time being, I don't wear it. I might go back to wearing it one day, who knows?

I wear makeup sometimes... not as much as I should! LOL
Posted by: Renee Garcia | November 19, 2008 at 07:28 AM
i do use eye makeup sometimes...(almost always mascara cuz it makes you look more awake than i usually feel), however, i think i've only used 2 colors of eye shadow at a time (maybe 3 if i was feeling extra brave). i've never gotten the hang of eye liner, so i never use it. btw, your "dark eye" looks great, but i think if i tried that, i'd look like a raccoon. also, that pic of you and the girls is my all-time favorite of you guys. love it!

Do the same colors work on Blue eyes? It looks amazing on you!

I absolutely LOVE your "you ask/I'll answer column". I really do. Often makes me feel like I'm not alone on things. Not being much of an eye makeup person, this one just made me laugh out loud. First, because you are so real and I love that. Second, because, just imagining you trying to take pictures in a mirror with you eyes closed brings me to a giggle.
Thanks. :-D

Thanks H! I am definitely stopping by the MAC counter when I am in Chicago in a couple weeks!

I love make-up and I have ever since I was little. My mom never let me wear it outside of the house, except for Halloween, but I would experiment with hers all the time. I love your make-up how to!

This particular blog post from Heather was a complete waste of time for me ... probably and hopefully because I'm a guy ... ... but I still read it as I do read most of her posts ... I wouldn't put it past my wife to try out these makeup tips on herself come this weekend.

I don't...... okay there was that one time.
Posted by: Brody Harper | November 19, 2008 at 09:57 AM
I wear it very rarely, as it tends to melt here in Hawaii!
Posted by: Sarah | November 19, 2008 at 10:09 AM
I do wear makeup because I don't want to frighten anyone. I look half dead without makeup. I will go for a dramatic smokey eye whenever we are going out for have a special occasion. But for the most part it is the essentials. Sometimes when I do the whole eye thing, I don't have the confidence to pull it off and I kinda feel like I have "dirty eyes"--that's what I call it anyways. But seeing you blend a lighter brown into the crease on top of the black makes alot of sense. You are workin' it girl!! Sashay shante.
I got my makeup done at Smashbox and I looked fab. Seriously. But they used so many different lotions and highlighters and stuff that it was impossible to recreate. And their compact made me look orange!! Ew. But my eyes look awesome.
Thanks for the lesson. You are brave to put a pic of yourself on your blog with a bare face. Brave, I say!! LOL

First of all, your dedication to your readers is awesome. That was quite a cool walk through. Second, is that the everyday Whittaker style or just photo shoot style?
Posted by: Brittney Ekberg | November 19, 2008 at 04:27 PM
I do not. Can you tell? I don't even know where half that stuff goes.
Posted by: Bethany | November 19, 2008 at 04:49 PM

Its a everyday/ look hot eye. I do a dark eye in winter, when I want to look cute... Date, church, event. It just depends! H
Posted by: whittakerwoman | November 19, 2008 at 08:58 PM
Hate to be a kill-joy but you look so cute and young in the first pic without it! Probably not the look you're going for though.. ;) the pic with the girls is absolutely beautiful!

Thanks for the tips. I love trying new things.

For the most part I do NOT wear make-up. Hard to look natural with my fair skin and all. I never really learned to apply make-up and having only older brothers they highly discouraged anything girly. I think I'll give your method a try and see what happens... I am 34 afterall.

I Love, love, love MAKEUP! Always have- it's so much fun! I started playing with it when I was a kid. My mother would give me the makeup her Aunt (an Avon lady)would bring her when she came to visit. My mom never wore makeup when I was a kid. She just gave it to me! I'm really into Bare Minerals right now as far as foundation and blush. I'll use any kind of eyeshadow and I mostly stick to liquid eyeliner (black)and black mascara. I will never go out without my lipstick! The color?- Maybelline Cherry Brown aka: F360

I wear makeup but when I really want to look good (like for my driver's license photo) I call a professional. Lucky for my I have a friend who is a pro.
Posted by: Anita | November 20, 2008 at 11:16 AM
I wear makeup but when I want it to come out like yours in that bottom pic, I call my friend Amy, the professional. She shows up with all her boxes and works her magic and all is well.
Posted by: Anita | November 20, 2008 at 11:18 AM
Wow, How challenging was it to take pics, do the make-up and still walk away looking like the model you know you are!! Plus a little boy going pee right there-cause they don't wait for opportune times , do they?? My 2 1/2 year old is potty training too!
Posted by: Charlotte and Larry | November 20, 2008 at 11:41 AM
You are gorgeous. I wish I had eyelids like that. I don't have much of a crease and not alot of room for multiple colors of shadow :(
Posted by: Trina | November 20, 2008 at 11:50 AM
I wear a little make-up and rarely leave the house without it. My husband, bless his heart, always tells me I don't need it. But, he's wrong.
Posted by: annie | November 20, 2008 at 01:08 PM
usually...none. if i have any on, you can tell i really want to be there. i look totally different with eyeliner and mascara... fun church event or rare night out with my husband? make-up. going to my real job? not so much. :)
Posted by: Rebecca Moon | November 20, 2008 at 03:27 PM
i wear a little powder foundation, blush, and mascara...that's it. have you ever heard of eyes.lips.face? it sells makeup for $1 an item...i'm not kidding! here's the website, and i know someone who ordered; it's not a scam:

I am the worst in this department.. I just started maybe a month ago..wearing a little bit of liner on my eye and mascara.. nothing else because I don't know what to do.
Foundation? Blush? Eye shadow? Lipstick? It's like a foreign language..seriously.
